Sitting on the bench beside the front door this is the splendid view down the valley towards Peebles and it is beautiful at every season of the year. Drochil Castle is a 1200 acre grassland farm with cattle and sheep. Its lands lie between the Lyne and Tarth Waters. Peebles is seven miles away where these two rivers meet the Tweed. Behind the farmhouse tower the massive ruins of Drochil Castle which was built for the Regent of Scotland and was not finished before his execution in 1581. It stands today incomplete and never occupied in over 400 years.
Family run Drochil Castle is a traditional Scottish farmhouse B&B offering a relaxed, friendly welcome. In summer sit and enjoy the view over the garden with its handsome mature trees. If the weather is less kind unwind by the fireside and enjoy a cup of tea and some home-baking.
The bed and breakfast is ideally placed for touring the scenic and historic Scottish border country with its delightful towns especially Peebles, Melrose & Kelso where charming architecture, lovely one-off shops and excellent eateries are all well worth the trip. Alternatively the festival city of Edinburgh is only 25 miles and there is a handy park-and-ride on the outskirts of the town to whiz you into the centre.
Drochil Castle has become known amongst the mountain biking fraternity as a great base for the famous Glentress track and the Red Bull at Innerleithen. There is secure storage and washing facilities for bikes and the men of the house will bore you with bike talk for hours! The ladies are keener for their mounts to have four legs, manes and tails.
Drochil is traditionally decorated, very comfortable, warm and welcoming. Every attempt has been made to anticipate your needs. All the bedrooms have tea and coffee making facilities, radio alarm clock and electric blankets. All linen and towels are provided. As a member of the green tourism scheme we try to minimise energy and water consumption without compromising your comfort.
